Update June 22, 2003

All members of CVAS and the OTAA are encouraged to contribute ideas, articles, images and observation reports for possible inclusion in future issues of this monthly update and in the quarterly editions of The Valley SkyWatcher.
 

TREASURY:

General Fund: $1,674

Petty Cash:     $         5

New Observatory Fund  $1,250

At the start of the meeting, the New Observatory Fund was at $1250, but during the meeting more more was collected. By the meetings end, the amount that was collected and pledge was at $3825. We need about $7000 for a dome, with about another $2000 for the dome base and pier 

Observatory Director:

Marty Nemmi and Jim Bownfield filled in the ruts in the drive. Marty also installed a new fan in the computer that drives the 16" telescope.  

Burning of brush has continued, with some more work that needs to be done here. A work session was scheduled for Saturday, June 14.

Observations:

Not much have been going on here with all the clouds and rain that we have been getting. A few have reported getting in a look at Jupiter and Saturn here and there.

Old Business:

Had a discussion on the new observatory, the items that was covered:

Placed the order for the dome, the due date is in the beginning in July, put down payment down on this, the rest is due in July. Brought dome, from -Technical Innovations 301-977-9000. The items that was purchased were:Home Dome (10') HD-10 - $5,450, Power Supply (PS-12) 85, Electric Dome Drive (ED-10) $390,Electric Shutter(ES-10)- $390

They want $700 to ship it to us, it is about a 6 hour drive there and need a good size truck. So the option of someone going and getting it does not look good. Joe Petrick looking into getting a less expensive way to get it shipped to us.

Where to put the dome. The original location we were planning is not the best due to trees blocking the south. A new location at the SE corner of the present observatory was decided to be the best spot. But since this would only be 6ft from the property line, a variance is needed from Huntsburg, this will cost $100. One our neighbor is already objecting to it, so we might not be able to get one.

Marty Nemmi has agreed to be the project leader and headup the construction of the building.

New Business:

Went over calendar, Larry Boros handed out calendar with upcoming dates on it.

New Members:
